Equine Dreams offers Mentoring for In-Training (IT) Candidates for those who are qualified under the following guidelines:
1. Minimal age requirement of 19 years old.
2. Candidate must seek NARHA certification beginning with becoming a NARHA member, CPR and first aid, and applying for online self study and CAT course.
3. Candidate agrees to uphold the NARHA instructor code of ethics.
4. Candidate agrees to abide by Equine Dreams polices and procedures.
5. Candidate agrees to work a minimal of 12 hours a week on a volunteer basis.
6. Candidate agrees to attend all assigned classes and events.
7. Candidate must have a basis knowledge of stable management and horse care.
8. Candidate must have the ability to ride at an advanced beginner level or higher; this includes the walk, trot, canter, leads, diagonals, simple ring patterns, leg yields, and rein back.
9. Candidate agrees to teach a minimum of a half day of lessons at Equine Dreams during the summer following their certification as a registered instructor.
The candidate will receive the following:
1. a certified instructor as a mentor.
2. one on one evaluations, written tests, lectures, and class time.
3. observation of other registered instructor’s classes.
4. hands on experiences with aspects of teaching therapeutic riding.
5. opportunity to assist in training of volunteers, barn mgmt, horse care programs, special events, and fundraising.
6. riding lessons on Equine Dream’s horses with a registered therapeutic riding instructor..
~ITC must volunteer over 20 hours a week to receive lessons without charge; under that amount the ITC will pay $30 for a group lesson and $60 for a private lesson.
7. Mentoring toward NARHA certification; including personal evaluations for riding and teaching, guidance toward the registered exam and CAT course.
**International or out of state candidates will be offered a room and board for a minimal fee if needed.
**ITC candidates are responsible for their travel expenses.
